Hurricane Preparedness Fair I
FROM:
SUBJECT:
As you know, last year's hurricane season was extremely busy and many residents were
unprepared for the storms. The Neighborhood Services Department, in conjunction with the
Public Works, Building, Parking, Parks and Recreation, Fire and Police Departments, is
organizing the 5th Annual Hurricane Information and Preparedness Fairs to assist our
residents in preparing for this year's storm season. Valuable hurricane and disaster
preparedness information will be distributed at the fairs.
For the past four years the event has been held in the 1000 Block of Lincoln Road. This
year, in an effort to reach as many residents as possible, the Neighborhood Services
Department has scheduled three Hurricane Preparedness Fairs in various neighborhoods
throughout the City. The first of the three fairs was held on Sunday May 7,2006 on Lincoln
Road. The other two fairs are as follows:
. Saturday, May 13, 2006, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - North Beach Farmer's Market at the
Normandy Fountain
. Saturday, May 20, 2006, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - RDA South Pointe Police Satellite
Station
Additional private and public sector partners for the Hurricane Preparedness Fairs include
FEMA, the American Red Cross, the U.S. Coast Guard, Miami-Dade Transit, ACE
Hardware, Master Gardner Renee Savary, the Humane Society and various homeowners'
associations.
In addition, the Fire Department will be offering free blood pressure screening and will have
a fire truck at the Lincoln Road event, and a clown will entertain the children with free face
painting. The City will give 2 % gallon collapsible water jugs to the first 100 residents that
attend each fair.
