RESOLUTION NO. 98-22700
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
PROCLAIMING APRIL 6TH THROUGH APRIL 12TH, 1998,
"NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK" IN
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, the week of April 6th through 12th, 1998, has been designated as "National
Community Development Week"; and
WHEREAS, the City is a participant in the Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) program which funds capital improvements, social services, economic development,
commercial revitalization, and residential rehabilitation and preservation programs in this
community; and
WHEREAS, in the City, and in communities throughout the nation, twenty-three years
ofCDBG program funding has developed a strong working network of relationships between local
government, residents of community development target neighborhoods and the many non-profit
agencies which provide services and help make possible our commitment to these neighborhoods;
and
WHEREAS, this community recognizes that the CDBG program is a partnership of
federal, local government, non-profit and community efforts, and that the services funded by the
federal CDBG program, administered by the local government and often delivered by local non-
profit organizations, relies heavily on the dedication and goodwill of our combined efforts; and
WHEREAS, that during "National Community Development Week 1998", the City will
give special thanks and recognition to all CDBG service providers and project operators for
providing essential services and programs to our residents; and
WHEREAS, the City also wishes to recognize the members of the Community
Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) for their work and dedication to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City hereby
designates the week of April 6th through 12th, 1998, as "National Community Development Week"
in the City of Miami Beach, and further urges the legislature to continue to preserve and fully fund
the Community Development Block Grant Program.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached Resolution.
BACKGROUND
During 1998, communities across the nation will mark the 12th annual celebration of "National
Community Development Week" from April 6th through 12th, 1998. The purpose of this week is
to celebrate the success of community development programs on a nationwide basis, as a prelude
to securing the re-authorization of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
ANAL YSIS
Municipalities have been asked to adopt resolutions illustrating the accomplishments and benefits
ofthe CDBG program and proclaiming "National Community Development Week".
CONCLUSION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt a Resolution proclaiming April 6th through 12th,
1998, "National Community Development Week" in the City of Miami Beach.
