2000-23844 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 2000-23844 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE PLANNING AND REDESIGN EFFORTS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI FOR BICENTENNIAL PARK LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, Bicentennial Park has, since 1994, been under the management of the Bayfront Park Trust; and WHEREAS, the condition of the park needs to be upgraded in order to be in compliance for public safety; and WHEREAS, downtown Miami is in need of well planned, secure, and accessible open space that is attractive for residents and tourists alike; and WHEREAS, the redesign of Bicentennial Park by the City of Miami as a premier public park will benefit the citizens of Miami-Dade County, as well as the tourists who visit its waterfront attractions; and WHEREAS, the redesign of Bicentennial Park will assist in the revitalization of the Overtown, Park West, and Omni areas of downtown Miami through which tourists and citizens travel to reach the City of Miami Beach. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the planning and redesign efforts of the City of Miami for Bicentennial Park are hereby supported in order to develop it into a premier public park and to aid in the revitalization of the Overtown, Park West, and Omni areas. Be It Therefore Resolved: That this commission asserts its desire to redesign Bicentennial Park as a premier public park for Miami; and That the park will be designed in order to aid the revitalization of Overtown, the Park West and Omni areas; and That the Commission will initiate a planning process for the redesign of Bicentennial Park including the general public, city staff, Commissioners, outside consultants, as well as the newly created Parks Advisory Board, the Waterfront Board, the Bayfront Park Trust and other interested parties.
