RESOLUTION NO. 2000-23895
A RESOLUTION OF THE MA YORAND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE AWARD OF A SUPPLEMENTAL GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$150,881.00, FOR THE PERIOD OF FEBRUARY 1, 2000, TO JANUARY 31, 2001, FROM THE
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, HIGH INTENSITY DRUG TRAFFICKING
PROGRAM (HIDTA), FOR THE ADMINISTRATION AND OPERATION OF A MONEY
LAUNDERING TASKFORCE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MA YORAND CITY CLERK TO
EXECUTE ALL APPROPRIATE CONTRACTS; AND AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATION
OF GRANT FUNDS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Police Department was awarded a grant, in the amount of
$93,320.00, from the United States Department of Justice, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDT A)
Program; and
WHEREAS, this grant was accepted by the Mayor and City Commission on February 23, 2000,
pursuant to Resolution No. 2000- 23811; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice has awarded the City of Miami Beach Police
Department supplemental grant funds in the amount of $150,881.00, and the supplemental grant funds will
be used to defray costs for office rent, office expenses (utilities, computers, telephones, etc.), the
salary and benefits of one full-time office manager, overtime, vehicle rentals and operating expenses;
and
WHEREAS, the supplemental grant funds are for the period of February 1, 2000, to January 31,
2001, with no matching funds required by the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission
herein authorize the acceptance of the the award of a supplemental grant, in the amount of $150,881.00,
for the period of February 1,2000, to January 31,2001, from the United States Department of Justice, High
Intensity Drug Trafficking Program (HIDT A), for the administration and operation of a money laundering
Task Force; and further authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute all appropriate contracts, and
authorize the appropriation of grant funds.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANAL YSIS
The Miami Beach Police Department has been awarded a grant by the United States Department of
Justice, High Intensity Trafficking Area (HITDA) Program, to continue to administer and operate
a Money Laundering Task Force that was established last year. The Task Force is composed of
personnel from the Miami Beach Police Department, the Internal Revenue Service, the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement, the City of Miami Police Department, and the North Miami Beach
Police Department.
The original grant award was $93,320, for the period of February 1,2000 to January 31,2001 and
was accepted by the Mayor and City Commission on February 23, 2000 under Resolution 2000-
23811.
The Police Department has been awarded a supplemental award of $150,881. The supplemental
funds will be used to defray costs for office rent, office expenses (utilities, computers, telephones,
etc.), the salary and benefits of one full-time office manager, overtime, vehicle rentals and operating
expenses. There are no matching funds required from the City.

The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution in order
to allow the Police Department to accept this supplemental grant funding and continue the
administration and operation of this Task Force which benefits all ofthe citizens of Miami-Dade
County.
