ANALYSIS
For several years, the City's Transportation Planning and Environmental Resources Management
Divisions have been collaborating on the development of a bicycle/pedestrian trail to be built along
the western edge of the sand dunes in the North Beach area, called the North Beach Recreational
Corridor Project. To date, approximately $3,000,000 has been acquired from the Miami-Dade
County Safe Neighborhood Bond Fund, the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning
Organization and the City's General Obligation Bond program for the development of the first
phase of the Project, which will be built between 65th and 75th Streets.
As part of the City's legislative priorities list for the 1999 federal legislative session, the Mayor
and City Commission authorized the Administration to pursue funding for the continued
development of the North Beach Recreational Corridor Project. Pursuant to that authorization, the
City submitted an appropriations request and supporting testimony to the U.S. House of
Representatives, Veterans Administration, Housing and Urban Development and Independent
Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee for the project.
