This year we intend to continue the fight against cancer by achieving our 1999-2000 goal of$100,000. The Creative Black Tie Evept is the largest money maker of the year. Last year we raised $40,000 at the Creative Black Tie. The Creative Black Tie is a spoof of fonnal black tie mixers which were so popular in New York during "Studio 54" era. In previous years, the Creative Black Tie has been held at the Port of Miami. However, the Port of Miami is no longer renting space for events. New Directions selected the Miami Beach Convention Center because we believe it will draw a substantial crowd of young professionals. The Miami Beach Convention Center is a premium location as the young professionals can continue the party after the event at the areas clubs and restaurants. Vohmte~r Senr!ces of America has openly cooperated to allow area restaurants to participate at the Miami Beach Convention Center. There are several areas where cost reduction would be extremely helpful for us to maintain a cost- effective budget: < 1. Rent: In past years, New Directions has only paid $2000 but now we must pay $3500, which is a $1500 increase. 2, Audjo-Vjsual!Efe~!ricr:Ji COi:!":~ctors: In DaS! years, p:cfess!onal sound system volunteers have set-up the SOlli1d system for the band and DJ for free. Now, we must hire people to assist with the audio-visual needs and to assist with the restaurants electrical hook-ups. This comes to an extensive increase of expenses for the event. 3. Air conditioning: In the contract, the air conditioning is allowed to run 8 hours during the day. Our event times are from 9 p.m. - 1 :00 a.m. However, volunteers come in as early ES ? a.m. the day of the event to set-up and decorate.
