Miami Beach: Economic Development
It's no surprise to anyone who's tried to drive through Miami Beach on a Saturday night that the resort and entertainment business there
is soaring. The area's popularity has also driven up property values and caused building permits to increase sharply in recent years.
Miami Beach's high profile as a tourist destination has brought other types of businesses to the area as well, according to Kevin Krauter
of the Miami Beach Office of Economic Development. Music companies and Internet start-ups, among others, have flocked to the capi-
tal of chic and have helped create a more stable economic backbone. Curiously though, as the large hotel chains such as Loews, Hilton
and Marriott - along with huge residential developments - have come to Miami Beach, the population has remained fairly stable. Here
is a look at the economic development of Miami Beach over the last decade as illustrated by key economic indicators.
