ANALYSIS
The Miami Beach Fire Rescue Department currently deploys twelve (12) Advanced Life
Support (ALS) units to respond to calls for Emergency Medical Service. Six (6) of these
response units are transport capable and the other six are not. While all of the transport
units currently carry the Lifepak 12 defibrillator/monitor, only two of the non-transport,
Advanced Life Support Engine Companies carries them. All Lifepak 12 units were recently
upgraded to include Capnography, Oxygen Saturation and automatic Blood Pressure
monitoring capability. The Lifepak 10 units currently carried on these two trucks are not
upgradeable to include these critical components. The two new Lifepak 12
defibrillator/monitors including all of these features would replace the Lifepak 10 units on the
two Engine Companies that do not have them.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission adopt the attached
resolution approving and authorizing the issuance of a Purchase Order to Medtronic
Emergency Response Systems as the sole source provider of the Lifepak 12
Defibrillator/Monitor in the amount of $43,781.95.
