HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-26304 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2006-26304 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RATIFYING A CONTRACT, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $69,500, TO KAlLAS CONTRACTORS, TO PROVIDE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DOMESTIC WATER LINE AND BACKFLOW PREVENTION SYSTEM FOR THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM AT THE MIAMI BEACH GOLF COURSE. WHEREAS, due to the failure of the two previously installed fresh water supply lines and backflow prevention systems at the Miami Beach Golf Course, and the lack of fresh water supply to the irrigation pump system, there is an urgent need to replace the system as an emergency project to avoid further major water loss, damage to the irrigation pump system, or damage to the landscaping and grasses of the Golf Course (the Project); and WHEREAS, the Administration has determined that, due to the existing condition of the domestic water lines and backflow prevention systems at the Miami Beach Golf Course, and in order for the City to properly continue to maintain the irrigation system, the Project needs to be completed in an expeditious manner; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission, at its June 7, 2006 meeting, adopted Resolution No. 2006-26225, which authorized the Property Management Director to serve as the general contractor for the Project; and WHEREAS, the Property Management Director exercised the authority given to him by the City Manager and City Commission, and issued a Request for Quotations NO. VA-QT 12P-006, that was required to provide a method to obtain competitive quotes for the work; and WHEREAS, three (3) contractors that specialized in underground utilities and plumbing systems installations were contacted to provide quotes on the Project resulting in two (2) responsive quotes; and WHEREAS, after reviewing the quotes, and after checking background references, licensing, and insurance requirements, the Property Management Director determined that Kailas Contractors, provided the lowest responsive responsible quote for the Project; and WHEREAS, a contract was issued to Kailas Contractors, in the amount of $69,500, for the work; and WHEREAS, the Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission ratify the contract to Kailas Contractors, in the total amount of $69,500, to provide for the replacement of the domestic water lines and backflow prevention systems at the Miami Beach Golf Course. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby ratify a contract to Kailas Contractors, in the total amount of $69,500, to provide for the replacement of the domestic water lines and backflow prevention systems at the Miami Beach Golf Course. ANAL YSIS Due to the failure of the two previously installed fresh water supply lines and backflow prevention systems at the Miami Beach Golf Course and the lack of fresh water supply to the irrigation pump system, there is an urgent need to replace the system on an emergency basis to avoid further major water loss, damage to the irrigation pump system, or damage to the landscaping and grasses of the Golf Course.. The work specified consists of all labor, machinery, tools, means of transportation, supplies, equipment, materials, and services necessary for the design, specifications development, construction documents, permitting, and construction work required for the completion of the project.
