HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-26293 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2006-26293 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE CITY'S STATUTORY ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT POLICY WITH HARTFORD LIFE; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH HARTFORD LIFE, UPON COMPLETION OF SUCESSFUL NEGOTIATIONS, FOR AN ANNUAL PREMIUM NOT TO EXCEED $15,985.00; AS RECOMMENDED BY ARTHUR J. GALLAGHER AND CO., THE CITY'S BROKER OF RECORD. WHEREAS, Florida State Statutes 112.19 and 112.191 requires municipalities to provide $50,000 in Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D) to all law enforcement officers and firefighters; and WHEREAS, the renewal of the City's statutory life for 343 sworn Police Officers and 225 Firefighters includes a decrease from $17,007 to $15,985, representing a three year savings to the City of $3,066; and WHEREAS, Hartford Life has provided the City of Miami Beach a three year renewal rate of $47,955.00 payable in annual installments of $15,985.00 providing continued statutory AD&D coverage through September 30, 2009; and WHEREAS, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., the City's broker of record for group employee health benefits, recommends the renewal of the City's statutory AD&D policy with Hartford Life; and WHEREAS, the Administration recommends renewing with Hartford for an estimated annual premium installment not to exceed $15,985.00. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, authorize renewal of the statutory life program with Hartford Life, for an annual premium not to exceed $15,985.00.
