98-22740 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 98-22740 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE LEAVE A LEGACY INITIATIVE SPONSORED BY THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PLANNED GIVING COUNCIL AND PROCLAIMING MAY 1998 TO BE LEAVE A LEGACY MONTH. WHEREAS, Leave a Legacy has been organized by the Planned Giving Council of Miami-Dade County, Florida, to encourage people at all income levels to remember a charity in their will; and, WHEREAS, cultural organizations, religious groups, educational institutions, and health organizations have an ever-increasing need for funds from individual donors; and, WHEREAS, while nearly seventy four percent (74%) of South Florida residents contribute annually to charity, less than twenty percent (20%) provide for a charitable bequest at death; and, WHEREAS, no single charity has the resources to make every citizen aware of how beneficial and how easy it is to perpetuate their gifts to favorite charities through wills and estate planning; and, WHEREAS, Leave a Legacy's unified educational program will benefit all charities in South Florida and is sponsored by the Planned Giving Council of Miami-Dade County; and, WHEREAS, in May 1998, non-profit organizations, financial planners and estate planners throughout South Florida will promote the Leave a Legacy message to their donors and clients by participating in an intensive bi-county outreach effort that includes a speakers bureau, personal contacts, mailings, and a media campaign, and, WHEREAS, the importance of this campaign deserves recognition and support from the public sector as well as from every citizen. NOW THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida that May 1998 is hereby proclaimed as Leave a Legacy Month in recognition of the benefits of charitable bequests and the dedicated volunteers who are making our citizens aware of how much both donors and charities benefit from charitable bequests.
