Schools---Public and Private
The people of Miami realize
the value of schools to civiliza-
tion, now and in the future. They
bave expressed this thought in
the public school buildings cov-
,ering the district. All are attrac-
tive, modern and built for this
.climate, which means of airy de-
:sign with an appeal to the senses
in their coloring. The buildings
correspond to a city of Miami's
.attainments and magnitude, which
will tell the story in a concise
form, and they range from pri-
mary to -junior and senior high
:school grades.
Naturally schools are provided
for the almost miraculous growth
.of the city-but they go a little
. further than that, in order to give
.ample accommodations for the
-children of visitors w.ho spend all
.or part of their time here. Health
-conditions are exemplified in the
. fact that there are no inslde or
:shut-in class rooms.
The University of Miami, 10-
.cated in Coral Gables, attained
-fame almost from the start prin-
.cipally for the reason that it is
America's only open air higher
institution of learning where there
are outdoor classes, outdoor enter-
tainments and open air sports
throughout the entire school year.
Courses are offered in the College
or Arts leading to the Bachelor of
Arts and the Bachelor of Science
degrees, engineering, law, business
administration, education, music
and art. It also offers courses for
adults, in both day and evening
classes. Lectures and concerts are
given at the University as well
as at various locations throughout
the Miami district.
Those who wish to enter their
children in private schools will
find Miami amply provided with
them in the Coburn School, for
younger children; the Cushman
School, from kindergarten to 8th
grade; the Harris School, and the
Miami Military Academy of Coral
Gables. Miami offers health with
studies, school locations where a
love for nature is developed, and
education of the utmost value to
budding youth. Athletics for both
sexes is taught for the better de-
velopment of children in all ways
-mind and body.
