SOUTH POINTE PARK TO OPEN
OTHER PROJECTS MOVING FORWARD
With the opening
of South Pointe Park on October
25 leading the way, a flurry of
activity has been taking place in
this redevelopment area that
has kept it the shining jewel in
Miami Beach's economic future.
Among the ac-
tivities have been: new plans by
South Shore Developers, Inc.
(SSDI) to develop a multi-million
dollar residential/commercial
facility on land bordering the
new Miami Beach Marina; the
sale of 3.5 acres of government
owned bayfront property for
$3.5 million to Alaska-based
Cook Inlet Region, Inc., which is
studying the possibilities of
building a specialty retail project on the site; and Penrod
Brothers, Inc. which has received approval from the City Com-
mission to build a major 200 seat two-story restaurant sur-
rounding an outdoor pool and tropical garden at the Pier
Park site. In addition, the city's $10 million of infrastructure im-

The opening of
South Pointe Park marks the first
project that has been fully com-
pleted in the area. This 17-acre
recreational facility boasts a
major amphitheater for outdoor
concerts, picnic pavillions, vita-
course, tot-lots and many other
amenities. It will also be the site
of Crawdaddy's restaurant the
largest chain of theme restal1-
rants in the nation.
In other news, a
Florida corporation, Justice In-
vestment Corp., purchased a
majority interest in the Cheezem Development Corporation,
developers of the South Pointe Towers project. These new
owners have expressed a strong interest in continuing this
condominium/resort complex which they feel has a great
deal of economic viability. However, the Florida Department
of Natural resources has proposed the possibility of purchas-
ing the 18 acre site for a state park as of their "Save Our Coasf'
program. Justice Investment Corporation has temporarily de-
layed construction of the project until the State's proposal can
be further evaluated. The city commission has vigorously op-
posed this move by the state and has indicated that they will
take whatever steps necessary to block any proposed sale.

MIAMI VICE CELEBRATES ON THE BEACH
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1
The biggest round of applouse was saved for Don Johnson, star of
the popular series. As soon as he stepped into the lights, press cameras flashed
and the crowd roared. Johnson smiled and waved back to the delight of his fans.
The new Club 1235, located at 1235 Washington Avenue in the site of
the former Club Z, sparkled and shined in deco splendor for the occasion. Celebri-
ties such as Bee Gees Barry and Maurice Gibb, George Michael from WHAM and
the Vice stars among others, mingled with a sold out audience that had spent up to
$250.00 per person for the nighfs activities. This included dinner, drinks and a fashion
show and auction, the highlight of which was a spirited bidding for an auto-
graphed T-shirt worn by Don Johnson during filming.

AT CLUB 1235 TO HONOR MIAMI VICE'S RECORD 15 EMMY
