SUBJECT:
This letter will serve to inform you that the Miami Beach Police Department has met the
stringent requirements of a highly regarded and broadly recognized body of law enforcement
standards; and was accredited for a third time by the Commission on Accreditation for Law
Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), Inc. on November 18. 2006, held at an annual conference
in Reno, Nevada.
This complex process began approximately three years ago as the Miami Beach Police
Department initiated its second reaccreditation cycle. Achieving and maintaining CALEA
reaccreditation is a significant law enforcement industry standard attained by a limited
number of law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and Canada.
This achievement represents the satisfactory completion of a continuous process of
thorough agency wide self-evaluation, concluded by an exacting outside review from a team
of independent professional law enforcement assessors. By successfully completing this
process, the Miami Beach Police Department distinguishes itself as a highly professional
public safety organization serving the residents and visitors of Miami Beach.
Please join me in congratulating the men and woman of the Miami Beach Police
Department for their continuous commitment to professional excellence.
