It's a new era
'"
The opening of the new Miami Beach Theater
of the Performing Arts will initiate a new era in
the city of Miami Beach for entertainment and
cultural development.
It is anticipated that the opening of Jerry
Herman's latest musical, "Mack and Mabel,"
based on the antics of two luminaries in the era
of the silent screen, will prove to be a major
event not only in the history of entertainment in
Miami Beach, but in national theater as well.
. The premiere offering, scheduled for Tuesday,
Feb. 10, will usher in a theater of creative design
with scientific facilities that utilize the best in
visual and acoustic planning. 72 sets of lines will
permit 72 changes of scenery in one show, a
spectacular feat in itself. Dressing room con-
veniences will be such as to satisfy the tastes of
the most fastidious stars, and the most elaborate
production requirements. The Attec sound
system and acoustical shell are ideal for the
most demanding requirements and refinements
of concerts, operas and exacting theatrical at-
tractions. Seats and sighting were designed for
comfort and for artistic achievement.
The theater of the Performing Arts is located

on the identical site where the former
auditorium was situated on the corner of
Washington Avenue and 17th Street. The original
structure, built in 1950, was demolished in May of
1975 to be replaced by this beautiful new theater
currently readying for its initial presentati~n.
