Analyze existing transit service in the coastal communities 2. Determine if and how existing bus transit can be streamlined to: a) Improve service b) Improve traffic with less bus interference c) Improve operational efficiency for MDT Consolidate duplicative routes along the A 1 A Corridor 2 3. Determine locations for major transfer facilities, based on: a) Proposed streamlining structure b) Improvement programming c) Coordination and support for long range plans 4. Coordinate with the Coastal Communities Transportation Master Plan · To assess current traffic and transportation issues and develop short term, mid-term, and long term solutions 3 DShare data and integrate data format o Same sub-study area boundaries o Integrate public input · Presentations at each meeting · Collect input jointly · Use as appropriate for transportation and/or transit plans o 14 MDT routes serving coastal communities A, C, E, G, H, J, K, L, M, R, S, T, V, South Beach Shuttle (WI 4 o A 1 A Corridor: · Of these 10 routes provide some duplicative service along parts of the A 1 A Corridor C, E, G, H, J, K, l, S, T, V - All 10 cross the Bay o East - West - Of these, 6 routes go on to provide significant east west service in the Cou nty (past Biscayne Blvd.) E: to North Miami Beach, and Miami lakes G: to Miami, North Miami, and Opa locka H: to North Miami Beach, and Miami Gardens J: to Miami Int'I Airport, and Coconut Grove L: to Hialeah (Metro-Rail, Tri-Rail, and Amtrak) V to North Miami Beach and Golden Glades 5 o A 1 A North - South - 3 routes are the backbone of A 1 A transit service from Hallandale and Aventura to Downtown Miami K, 5, T o Local Services - 5 routes provide primarily local circulation services along secondary and tertiary streets A, C, M, R, W 6 o Can an express and local route North-South route with higher frequency along A 1 A replace several routes? o Can East-West routes, with very different characteristics be truncated at new transfer facilities? o Easy to Understand · more user friendly route structure 7 OSchedule Adherence - Easier to fine tune schedules ~ reduce bunching ~ improve schedule adherence ~ better on-time performance = better service and better efficiency o Efficiency . Primarily serves east-west functions from Opa locka, North Miami to Bay Harbor Is., Bal Harbour, and Surfside ). Ba\ Habour to Mid-Beach are important destinations, with home-origin concentrations at Middle Beach and North Beach ). Most A 1 A transfers are to the Hand K ). If detailed origin destination analysis, and load analysis of the turn from 125th St. to A 1 A shows that AlA corridor is self contained, truncation may be recommended ). Requires Kane Concourse transfer facility ). Route G r.anks 27 of 94 in ridership o AlA East - West Connections Route H ). Primarily serves east-west functions from North Miami Beach to sunny Isles, Bal Harbour, Surfside, and Miami Beach . ). A 1 A segments are important origins and destinations ). If detailed origin destination, and load analysis of the turn from 163rd St. to A 1 A shows that A 1 A corriaor is self contained, truncation may be recommended ~ Route goes south of 5th Street ). Requires 163rd transfer facility ~ Route H ranks 11 of 94 in ridership 22 o AlA East - West Connections Route J ~ Route J is long: from Coconut Grove, to Airport, to Allapattah, to Miami Beach ~ large turnover by mid-route - operates almost as two routes - Airport IS the most important destination ~ AlA transfers to the C, H, l, and S ~ If detailed origin destination, and load analysis of the turn from 41 sl St. to A 1 A shows that A 1 A corridor is self contained, truncation may be recommended ~ Or strengthen route as Airport connection from 72nd and 41 sl St. transfer facilihes ~ Route J ranks 15 of 94 in ridership o AlA East - West Connections Route L ~ This is a very large route, from Hialeah through Miami, to Miami Beach ~ Provides connection to Metrorail, and Tri-Rail ~ AlA transfers to the C, H, K, and S ~ loads drop off after 71 sl Street, and more after 41 sl Street. ~ If detailed 'origin destination, and load analysis of the turn from 163rd St. to AlA shows thai AlA corriaor is self contained, truncation may be recommended, either at 71 sl Street or at 41 sl Street ~ Requires major transfer facility at truncation point 23 Route V ~ Primarily serves east-west functions from NMB, Eastern Shores, Aventura to Sunny Isles, and Hallandale ~ The A 1 A segment north of Sunny Isles is not an important origin or destination ~ Most A 1 A transfers are to the Hand S ~ Average loads along A 1 A are very low: lower than segments on the mainland ~ If detailed origin destination analysis shows that A 1 A corridor: is self contained, truncation may be recommended . ~ Requires transfer facility at 163rd St. o Circulators . Consolidations / Changes depend on other routes . Provide service to all existing circulator segments with link to transfer facilities . Include all segments that have been deleted from A 1 A routes 24 o Circulators . Mid-North Beach Circulator . Comprised of Route R and deleted pieces of Route K . Hub to Major Transfer Facilities at 72nd / 73rd Street and 415t Street o Circulators . Mid-South Beach Circulator . Comprised of Route C and Route M . Hub to Major Transfer Facilities at 41 5t Street . Service to Downtown Miami 25 o Circulators . South Beach Circulator . Primarily Route W, possibly combined with Route A . Service to Omni, linking arts districts in both cities with South Beach .
