1
1. Analyze existing transit service in the
coastal communities
2. Determine if and how existing bus transit can
be streamlined to:
a) Improve service
b) Improve traffic with less bus interference
c) Improve operational efficiency for MDT
Consolidate duplicative routes along the
A 1 A Corridor
2
3. Determine locations for major transfer
facilities, based on:
a) Proposed streamlining structure
b) Improvement programming
c) Coordination and support for long range
plans
4. Coordinate with the
Coastal Communities Transportation
Master Plan
· To assess current traffic and transportation
issues and develop short term, mid-term,
and long term solutions
3
DShare data and integrate data format
o Same sub-study area boundaries
o Integrate public input
· Presentations at each meeting
· Collect input jointly
· Use as appropriate for transportation
and/or transit plans
o 14 MDT routes serving coastal
communities
A, C, E, G, H, J, K, L, M, R, S, T, V,
South Beach Shuttle (WI
4
o A 1 A Corridor:
· Of these 10 routes provide
some duplicative service along
parts of the A 1 A Corridor
C, E, G, H, J, K, l, S, T, V
- All 10 cross the Bay
o East - West
- Of these, 6 routes go on to
provide significant east west service
in the Cou nty (past Biscayne Blvd.)
E: to North Miami Beach, and Miami lakes
G: to Miami, North Miami, and Opa locka
H: to North Miami Beach, and Miami Gardens
J: to Miami Int'I Airport, and Coconut Grove
L: to Hialeah (Metro-Rail, Tri-Rail, and Amtrak)
V to North Miami Beach and Golden Glades
5
o A 1 A North - South
- 3 routes are the backbone of A 1 A
transit service from Hallandale and
Aventura to Downtown Miami
K, 5, T
o Local Services
- 5 routes provide primarily local
circulation services along secondary
and tertiary streets
A, C, M, R, W
6
o Can an express and local route North-South route
with higher frequency along A 1 A replace several
routes?
o Can East-West routes, with very different
characteristics be truncated at new transfer facilities?
o Easy to Understand
· more user friendly route structure
7
OSchedule Adherence
- Easier to fine tune schedules
~ reduce bunching
~ improve schedule adherence
~ better on-time performance = better service and
better efficiency
o Efficiency
. Better operational efficiency
~ higher bus utilization
~ scheduling improvements from separating regional
east-west functions from beach functions
8
o Long Ra nge Pia ns
- Developing the route structure and transfer
infrastructure for possible long range
o Data:
- Large existing data source
~ from 2004, MDT's CBOA data performed by CUTR
- Transit Rider Survey
~ 27,000 records
~ 3,600 parsed for Coastal Communities
~ origin - destination and transfer data
~ trip purpose
~ rider demographics
~ frequency of use and transit se tenure
y rider attitudes - including toward transfers
9
o Origin - Destination
- 12% of transit trips are short within
districts
- 14% of transit trips are longer along
coastal communities
- 74% of transit trips cross the Bay

determine passenger impact if routes are split
16
o Segment Loads
· Segment Loads
~ How many passengers on the bus along segments of the route
by periods of the cay
~ Crowding vs. Productivity
. County-Wide Ride Check Data
~ from 2004, MDT's CBOA data performed by CUTR
~ 11,750 surveyed trips, 14,900 survey hours

y LDC incentives?
18
o What?
. After preliminary recommendations
What should transfer locations be:
~ bus bay capacity
~ bus layover capacity
yon-street and off-street
y amenities and space
~ complementary uses
o as a basis for recommendations
o will need operational analysis
o will need rider impact analysis
o will need benefit / cost analysis
19
o A 1 A North - South

consolidated A 1 A Corridor Service
~ Route S provides local service from
Aventura to Downtown Miami
~ Realigned to Collins or Washington
Avenue from Lincoln Road to 5th Street
o A 1 A North - South
. Route T becomes. express route of
consolidated A 1 A Corridor Service
~ Route T provides express service from
Aventura to the Omni or Miami
Streetcar Station
~ Miami Streetcar Station truncates
current alignment
~ Two alternatives to Omni
20
o A 1 A North - South
. Route K duplicative segments are incorporated into S
and T
y Route K resources used to improve frequencies on
Sand T
~ Route K local segments to be consolidated into
local routes
~ Route K Broward extension to be combined with
Route V as a connecting service from Aventura
~ Route K is a significant route: ranks 15th in by
ridership in system
o AlA East - West Connections
Route E
~ PrimarilY serves east-west functions from Miami lakes to
NMB, Eastern Shores, Aventura
~ The Sunny Isles AlA segment is an important home origin
and destination
~ Most A 1 A transfers are to the Hand S
~ Average loads along A 1 A are generally lower than
segments on the mainland
~ If detailed origin destination analysis shows that A 1 A
corridor is self contained, truncation may be
recommended
~ Requires transfer facility at 163rd St.
Route E ranks 57 of 94 in ridershi
21
Route G
). Primarily serves east-west functions from Opa locka,
North Miami to Bay Harbor Is., Bal Harbour, and
Surfside
). Ba\ Habour to Mid-Beach are important destinations, with
home-origin concentrations at Middle Beach and North
Beach
). Most A 1 A transfers are to the Hand K
). If detailed origin destination analysis, and load analysis
of the turn from 125th St. to A 1 A shows that AlA
corridor is self contained, truncation may be
recommended
). Requires Kane Concourse transfer facility
). Route G r.anks 27 of 94 in ridership
