FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager fUc-~1.'l7-' ~ - I
DATE: December 28, 2006
SUBJECT: 63rd STREET FL YOVER LANE CLOSURES
Attached please find a Notice from FDOT regarding planned lane closures for portions of
the 63rd Street Flyover Project Area.
The first scheduled closure is Friday, January 5, 2007, at 9:00 p.m. and will run through
Monday, January 8th until approximately 6:00 a.m. In this closure, east bound traffic over
the 63' Street Bridge will be closed.
On the following weekend from Friday, January 1 i" at 9:00 p.m. until Monday, January 15th
at 6:00 a.m. there will be a second lane closure. In this closure both lanes of traffic over the
63rd Street Bridge will be closed for public access. In this particular closure, specific
provisions are being made at the request of the City to enable Police and Fire vehicles to
cross the bridge at all times so as not to interfere with the provision of emergency services.
Both of the closures are necessary in order to undertake the appropriate reconstruction of
the intersection at 63rd Street and Indian Creek. No other alternatives are available to the
contractor.
The City has met with FDOT in order to assure that Police and Fire have ready means of
contact and coordination with FDOT and the project contractor. The City is also
supplementing the normal FDOT community outreach to assure that broad notice of these
two closures is provided to our community. The City will also be coordinating with FDOT the
appropriate placement of advance VMS warning signs so as to allow drivers to safely detour
the area without added inconvenience.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or Assistant City Manager,
Robert C. Middaugh. (") ....
