Gonzalez, City Managerj __ ~ January 16, 2007 {/ FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Art in Public Places Vacancies In Fiscal Year 2005 - 2006, the Art in Public Places Committee (AiPP) used its expertise to advise the Administration and the City Commission on the award of $750,000 in public funds for permanent public art projects. These projects advanced the City of Miami Beach's Mission, and addressed two of the City's Vision Statements: making our City a Cultural, Entertainment, Tourism Capital; and An Intemational Center for Innovation in Culture, Recreation and Business. As a result of term limits, there are currently two (2) vacancies on the AiPP. We wish to thank Jim Clearwater and lIija Mosscrop for their service on the AiPP and to our City. At its January 9, 2007 meeting, the AiPP reviewed all the applications submitted for appointment to AiPP using the criteria established by Sec. 82-561 of the City Code, which states that members of AiPP "shall posses a high degree of competence in evaluation of art history, architectural history, art, architecture, sculpture, painting, artistic structure design and other appropriate media for display or integration in public places." The Committee passed a motion urging the Commission to consider the following four individuals in filling the two (2) AiPP vacancies. (Copies of their resumes are attached for your reference): . Claire Breukel; . Chae duPont; . Michael Hughes; and . Rhonda Mitrani. In addition, the current terms of Chair Jeremy T. Chestler; Vice Chair Mariangela Capuzzo; and member Jim Weingarten expired on December 31,2006. Most importantly, 1 am committed to our city: The organizations that 1 founded and still run, are all direct contributions to the cultural development of Miami and Miami Beach. 01 have 12 years experience in film/video production industry as a filnunaker. 01 am the director of a documentary film called "Cuba Mia, which premiered at the Miami Film Festival and broadcast on PBS. 01 co-founded and run the 2628 Art Studios -located in the Mitrani Arts Builcting. We are members of the Wynwood Art District 01 co-founded a documentary film festival called The Florida Room Documentary FUm Festival in order to facilitate dialogue within our community through socially conscious cinema. We collaborate with prestigious local and national organizations in the arts or any company pertaining to the social issue at hand. (NPR, Miami Film Festival) This three-day festival happens outdoors, under the stars on the plaza de Espaila of Espailola Way.
