A Resolution Amending Superior Landscaping and Lawn Service's Contract For Phase Two
Of The Julia Tuttle Causewa In The Amount Of $265,000.
Issue:
I Shall the Mayor and City Commission approve the Resolution?
Item SummarY/Recommendation:
The current landscape maintenance contract between the City of Miami Beach and Superior
Landscape and Lawn Service, Inc., #31-03/04, provides for the performance of additional
services such as site landscape/irrigation restoration work as needed, based on contractually
established labor and material pricing. This is beneficial to the City because pricing is pre-
established through the competitive bidding process for the term of the contract and when the
restoration is complete the contractor is responsible for both the material warranty and the long
term maintenance of the materials. Should the contractor fail to properly care for these plantings,
they must replace them as a contractual obligation without question of liability. Additionally, by
utilizing our existing vendors, the timeframe required to complete the needed work is greatly
reduced.
This gateway location received extensive irrigation repairs along with trees, palms and ground
cover plant material during the first phase of work in the amount of $ 208,633 completed in
September, 2006. Phase II includes the installation of 17 shade trees, 43 palms and an
estimated 4,000 additional flowers, shrubs and ground covers, 20,000 sq. ft. of Eco-turf as well
as mulch and irrigation modifications to support the new plant material. If awarded it is the
objective to have substantial completion of the project prior to the Super Bowl on February 04,
2007.

ANALYSIS
The current landscape maintenance contract No. 31-03/04, between the City of Miami
Beach and Superior Landscape and Lawn Service, Inc., provides for the performance of
additional services such as site landscape/irrigation restoration work as needed, based on
their contractually established labor and material pricing. This is beneficial to the City
because pricing is established through the competitive process included in the landscape
maintenance program bid. Additionally, when the restoration is complete the same
contractor is responsible for both the material warranty and the long term maintenance of the
materials. Should the contractor fail to properly care for these plantings, they must replace
them as a contractual obligation without question of liability. Additionally, by utilizing our
existing contractors, the timeframe required to complete the needed work is greatly reduced.
This gateway location received extensive irrigation repairs along with trees, palms and
ground cover plant material during the first phase of work in the amount of
$208,633 completed in September, 2006.
Phase II includes the installation of 17 shade trees, 43 palms and an estimated 4,000
additional flowers, shrubs and ground covers, 20,000 sq. ft of eco-turf as well as mulch and
irrigation modifications to support the new plant material.
The design for the Julia Tuttle location was produced by the Greenspace Management
Division's Landscape Architect, Ms. Rhonda Gracie who is also acting as the Project
Manager for the installation.
