A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE
ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM NIKE, INC., OF AN
ESTIMATED 200 PAIRS OF RUNNING SHOES, VALUED AT $15,000,
TO BE DISTRIBUTED BY THE CITY'S PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT FOR YOUTHS IN THE CITY'S RECREATION
PROGRAMS, TO ENCOURAGE AND PROMOTE RUNNING,
PHYSICAL CONDITIONING AND HEALTHY LIVING.
WHEREAS, Nike, Inc. recently contacted the City's Parks and Recreation
Department, offering to donate an estimated 200 pairs of running shoes to the youth
enrolled in the City's recreational programs, with the intention of promoting physical
activity and healthy living by encouraging running, physical conditioning and the
development of life skills that will promote a long term healthy life style; and
WHEREAS, the market value of such donation totals approximately $15,000;
and
WHEREAS, as requested by Nike, Inc., the shoes will be distributed by the City,
through its Parks and Recreation Department, to youths who have participated in the
Recreation Division's Physical Fitness Challenge and earned a gold, silver or bronze
medal, or successfully completed three (3) of the six (6) challenges, or participate in the
Parks and Recreation's Annual Spring Duathlon and complete the event; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will assist the City through its Parks
and Recreation Department in accomplishing its measurable objectives linked to the
City's Key Intended Outcome of Increasing satisfaction with recreational programs by
encouraging and promoting running, physical fitness and healthy living as a life style for
the youth participating in the City's recreation activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and
City Commission hereby accept a donation from Nike, Inc., of an estimated 200 pairs of
running shoes, valued at $15,000, to be distributed by the City's Parks and Recreation
Department to youths in the City's recreational programs, encour ge and promote
running, physical conditioning and healthy living.

Nike, Inc. the shoes will be distributed to youth who have participated in the Recreation Division's
Physical Fitness Challenge and earned a gold, silver or bronze medal, or successfully completed 3
of the 6 challenges or participate in the Parks and Recreation's Annual Spring Duathlon and
complete the event.
The Administration recommends the approval of this resolution as it will assist the Department in
accomplishing its measurable objectives linked to the City's Key Intended Outcome of Increasing

Approve the Resolution.

Nike, Inc. recently contacted the City's Parks and Recreation Department offering to donate
an estimated 200 pairs of running shoes to the youth enrolled in the city's programs. The
intention of the donation is to promote physical activity and healthy living by encouraging
running, physical conditioning and the development of life skills that will promote a long term
healthy life style. The market value of such donation totals approximately $15,000.
All Nike shoes are intended to be distributed until the donation is fully exhausted. As
requested by Nike, Inc. the shoes will be distributed in the following order:
1. Children who participate in the Physical Fitness Challenge and earn the gold
medal (passing the 6 out of 6 challenges).
2. Children who participate in the Physical Fitness Challenge and earn the silver
medal (passing the 5 out of 6 challenges).
3. Children who participate in the Physical Fitness Challenge and earn the bronze
medal (passing the 4 out of 6 challenges).
4. Children who participate in the Physical Fitness Testing Challenge and did not
receive gold, silver or bronze, however passed 3 out 6 challenges.
5. Children who participate in the Parks and Recreation's Annual Spring Duathlon
and complete the event.
No conditions or other promotional considerations are expected by Nike as part of the
donation. While this donation is a one time action, the City will explore other future
opportunities.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends the approval of this Resolution. This approval will assist
the Department in accomplishing its measurable objectives linked to the City's Key Intended
Outcome of Increasing satisfaction with recreational programs by encouraging and
promoting running, physical fitness and healthy living as a life style for the youth participating
in the City's recreation activities.
