SUBJECT: BIKE TO WORK WEEK
The purpose of this LTC is to provide you with information about the Bike to Work Week events that
will be held during the week of March 5-10, 2007. Bike to Work Week is a national event founded in
1956 by the League of American Bicyclists. Its purpose is to promote bicycling as an alternative
mode of transportation and to recruit individuals as regular bicycle commuters.
In observance of Bike to Work Week, representatives from the following organizations will present
information about the benefits of bicycle commuting and the importance of bicycle safety to City of
Miami Beach employees and residents on March 5, 2007 at City Hall: Miami-Dade Transit, Miami-
Dade MPO, South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS), Florida Bicycle Association and the City's
Police Department. Information will also be provided on the City's new Bicycle Program and current
and future projects that will help make Miami Beach more bicycle friendly.
The Florida Bicycle Association will hold a Road 1 Bicycle Safety Workshop to teach bicyclists how to
safely operate their bicycles in a variety of situations, including how to legally and safely ride in traffic
and how to prevent accidents with crash-avoidance techniques. The workshop will be held at the
Crandon Park Nature Center, Key Biscayne on Saturday, March 3, 2007 from 9-5pm.
On Wednesday, March 7, commuting bicyclists who have their bikes with them may ride the Metrobus
for free all day throughout Miami-Dade County.
Bicycle commuters who ride their bike to participating Miami Beach businesses will also receive a 10
percent discount during Bike to Work Week. Participating businesses include Pilates South Beach,
Miami Beach Sports, Miss Yip Chinese Cafe, Yeung's Chinese Restaurant, Grill Med, Med Pizza &
Shishkebab Inc., Quizno's Sub, Bambina's Pizza & Cafe, Pizza Rustica (Lincoln Road), Venezia Pizza
& Cafe, Domino's Pizza, and Wing Zone.
For a calendar schedule of Bike to Work Week Events, please see the attached chart. If you need
