A RESOLUTION F THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ENDORSING THE GOALS OF THE
GOLD COAST CLEAN CITIES COALITION.
SUBJECT:
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
Three years ago, the Electrowave Shuttle Service received a $200,000 capital grant from the Gold
Coast Clean Cities Coalition, a regional organization which promotes projects and programs which
help improve air quality in South Florida. Additional grant opportunities are forthcoming, if the City
of Miami Beach is willing to do the following:
1. Endorse the goals of the Gold Coast Clean Cities Coalition (CCC);
2. Make reasonable efforts to identify additional fleet vehicles that could be operated on
alternatives to gasoline or diesel; and
3. Request a fleet analysis from CCC to assist in determining the feasibility of operating
alternative fueled vehicles.
lt will not be difficult for the City of Miami Beach to satisfy the intent of this proposed Resolution.
As compared to other cities in Miami-Dade County, we have already made strides by implementing
an all electric Shuttle Service, the Lincoln Road Tram, and the two Bombardier cars used for Police
enforcement on Lincoln Road. In addition, the City has on order ten (10) dual-fuel Ford Rangers
which will operate on Ethanol E85 and gasoline.
Therefore, the Administration recommends approval of the Resolution, which will give the City
additional opportunities for continued grant funding.
