February 2, 2007 - The City of Miami Beach Parks & Recreation Department had another
successful Movie in the Park. Children and Adults of all ages came together that Friday evening
at North Shore Park (501 72nd Street) for the premiere of the animated film "Open Season". Over
500 Miami Beach residents gathered in the carnival transformed lawn enjoying rides, food and
music.
February 9,2007 - The North Shore Park Youth Center was the place to be! 400 juniors and
teens in grades 4th - 6th danced the night away at the Sweethearts Valentine's Day Dance
hosted by the North Shore Park Youth Center's Teen Club. The entertainment was provided by
the North Shore's very own Hip Hop DJ.
February 14,2007 - "Romance in a Can", a five day romantic festival held at various theaters
and restaurants throughout Miami-Dade County displayed a variety of art work to include cinema
and poetry in celebration of Valentine's Day. The Festival ran from February 9-February 14,
2007. The North Shore Park Youth Center was proud to be a part ofthis Valentine's Celebration
which showcased Teen Club members Sarah Montolio and Valerie Palma on Thursday,
February 14th at the Byron Carlyle Theater, The girl's recited poetry pieces written by themselves
to an audience filled with children and adults of all ages.
February 23, 2007 - Over 200 people came to celebrate the North Shore Park and Youth
Center's 2nd Annual Black History Awareness Night. The event marked an evening of
celebration an appreciation for the achievements of African Americans then and now. Children
from the Parks and Recreation Department's after school program and local agencies presented
a variety of dance performances to music sung by popular African American artists and groups.
A variety of authentic African American dishes, music, arts & crafts exhibits and a bazaar were
also there to enjoy.
February 24, 2007 - Approximately 1,500 people came out to support and enjoy the Miami
Beach Parks and Recreation Department's 15t Annual Mardi Gras Parade event at Flamingo
Park. The Department brought a little slice of New Orleans to South Beach full of bead tossing
and clean classic Bourbon Street fun. The event featured nine floats that were a dragon, pirate
ship, Festival Playground, Egyptian Temple, Caribbean Sunrise, Royal Suite for the king and
queen, a medieval chariot, surfs up, and Jazzing down Bourbon Street. Free carnival rides and
live music plus food and Beverages kept the participants happy.
March 16,2007 - The North Shore Park Teen Club recently hosted a dance to celebrate St.
Patrick's Day. Approximately 418 juniors and teens danced the night away dressed in green and
white to show their St. Patty's spirit. Besides the fact children came out and had a blast, little did
they know the money spent on pizza, soda, and entrance fees went to a great cause. The Teen
Club raised $1,500 all of which will be donated to Relay For Life; an organization that celebrates
survivorship and raises money for research to help fight the battle on cancer.
March 23, 2007 - The City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department teamed up with
the South Florida Men's Amateur Baseball League (MABL) to hold the 1 st Annual "Baseball
March Madness" tournament at Flamingo Park's baseball stadium. Matti Bower, chair of this
year's Relay For Life threw out the first pitch. The tournament was held from March 23rd to the
26th with net proceeds totaling approximately $5,000 to benefit the Relay for Life and the
American Cancer Society. The event was an 8 team double elimination tournament with the
Western Nationals and Coral Gables A's playing for the championship game.

Youth of a Nation" performed by members of our Teen Club at Flamingo Park, 13th St. &
Meridian Ave., 7-8:30p.m.
April 7, 2007: Spring Eggstravaganza at North Shore Park, 501 72nd St., 10a.m.-12:30p.m.
