needs should register with
the Miami-D~e County Emer-
gency Evacuation Assistance
Program so they can be trims-
ported to a hospital or special
shelter before the arrival of a
storm. The number is
305-513-7700 or 305-468-5402
TDD.'
If Miami-Dade County ofn-
cials issue a hurricane warn-
ing, a storm is eXpected to
strike within 24 hours. Miami
Beach residents should secure
,
their homes and boats and pre- ,
pare to leave. When an evacua- \
tion order is issued. residents
should remember to carry
identification with them; they.
will need proof of address to
're-enter the city after the
storm.
.For city officials and fire,
rescue and police personnel,
the toughest part. of a hurri-
cane is often its aftermath.
.To help clear debris, the
city will set up two trash sites
after a storm: one at Dickens
and 72nd Street across from
the North Shore Park and one
at the Miami Beach Conven,
tion Center parking lot, located
between 18th and 19th streets.
How well the city copes in
the aftermath of a disaster is
often the only, way to know if
months of rlonning and prepa-
ration were effective.
:'That's the test no city ever
, wants to have to face," Jordan
said.

tion on how to prepare for a
hurricane and how to stay safe
