UPDATE ii~RT, HOMELESS OUTREACH TEAM
TO:
FROM:
This Letter to the Mayor and Commission is to provide an update on the Homeless Outreach Project.
The Police Department reports the following as it relates to the North Beach target area only:
Target Area:
North Beach
Open Space Park
Ocean Terrace
Number of contacts:
Number of contacts who accepted:
15
4
Social Services Offered:
Immediate shelter, entry into the continuum of care,
related services, (i.e., medical care), follow-up
Social Services Requested:
Several contacts expressed an interest in permanent
housing (Section 8 or other assistance in paying for
long term housing). One of the persons, who is living
out of his vehicle, was interested in accepting help but
would not accept it unless secured parking for his
vehicle was provided.
The North Beach area continues to have a population of hard core individuals who refuse all
assistance and are severe alcoholics. The Salvation Army continues to be very receptive to
participation in the program and checking in persons is quick and efficient. To date, this program,
on a city-wide basis, has contacted 125 persons; 91 refused any assistance, 34 accepted, and 33 have
been placed.
We will continue to provide updates as the program progresses.

------------------------------------ Message Contents ----------------------------------
This is an update on the implementation of the pilot hornless project.
As you can see only about 25% of the contacts accept any type of
assistance. If you would like I can prepare a more detailed report for
you in a LTC. Please advise.
