South Florida Commuter Challenge

The purpose of this L Te is to provide you with information about the South Florida
eommuter ehallenge, to be held on May 17,2007. South Florida eommuter Services
(SFeS) will be holding its third annual eommuter ehallenge for South Floridian's in the
Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach areas. SFeS was founded in 1988, as part of
Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) Regional eommuter Assistance Program;
which is dedicated to improving South Florida's traffic congestion by prompting alternatives
to drive-alone commuting.
The eommuter ehallenge is aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of alternatives to
drive-alone commuting in South Florida. The objective is to improve South Florida's traffic by
reducing the number of vehicles on the roadway and the emissions that they generate, as
well as lowering commuting costs and improving safety by reducing the number of accidents
that results from excessive congestion.
SFes is asking commuters to participate in the eommuter ehallenge by using an alternative
mode of transportation, such as carpooling, bus orTriRail ridership, biking, or walking. Each
participant who completes a pledge form will be entered for a chance to win various prizes,
including a trip for two to the Bahamas, $1,000 in gas from WFLe-FM (coast 97.3), a Sirius
Satellite Radio package, and a $100 Perry Ellis gift card.
Participation in the challenge is free of charge; the pledge form needs to be completed by
May 16, 2007, via on-line at www.yridealone.com. or by calling 1-800-234-RIDE to request a
Form to be sent via mail or by fax.
