Kasdin and Members of the City Commission Jorge M. Gonzalez ~. A ~ City Manager 0 LV ~ () Date: October 18, 2000 FROM SUBJECT: A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida Authorizing, by a 517ths Vote the Waiver of Formal Competitive Bidding and Award ofa Standing Order to Mount Sinai Medical Center in the Annual Estimated Amount of $35,000, for the Purchase of Emergency Medical Supplies by the Fire Department. ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION: To authorize the award. BID AMOUNT AND FUNDING: $35,000 (Estimated for one year) Funding is available from a credit from Mount Sinai Medical Center to the City of Miami Beach Health Facilities Authority. ANALYSIS: The Fire Department is requesting approval to renew a Standing Order for the purchase of medical supplies, on an as-needed basis, to be used to replace those supplies expended on emergency rescue runs. The requested amount of $35,000 is based on $2,900 per month, determined by past purchasing experience and estimates of future cost. The last request was approved on November 20, 1996, Commission Memorandum No. 682-96. The current arrangement the City has with Mount Sinai is extremely advantageous because it not only results in substantial cost savings, but also eliminates the need for maintaining large storage facilities for inventory. A cost comparison conducted in September, 2000, showed that the prices charged by Mount Sinai are approximately 40% less that the prices available to the City of Miami Beach on its yearly first aid contract.
