A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ADVISING FLORIDA GOVERNOR
JEB BUSH OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH'S OBJECTION TO THE
PROCEDURES, METHODOLOGIES, AND SCIENCE UTILIZED BY THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER
SERVICES WITH REGARD TO ITS CITRUS CANKER ERADICATION
PROGRAM AND URGING FLORIDA GOVERNOR JEB BUSH TO TAKE
IMMEDIATE ACTION TO RE-EVALUATE THE CITRUS CANKER
ERADICATION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach reasonably
believe that healthy trees are being unnecessarily destroyed and removed from private and public
properties within the City of Miami Beach by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services ("Department") Citrus Canker Eradication Program ("Program"); and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City ofMiarni Beach also reasonably
believe that the destruction and unnecessary removal of healthy trees within the City reduces
property values and has an adverse effect upon the residential character and lush tree canopy in the
City ofMiarni Beach; and
WHEREAS, the Department's Citrus Canker Eradication Program has come under
challenge and scrutiny by various local governments and individuals who have been adversely
impacted by the procedures, methodologies, and science utilized by the Program; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach wish to express
their serious concern and disapproval of the current policies, procedures, and science utilized by the
Department in the Citrus Canker Eradication Program and urge Florida Governor Jeb Bush to take
immediate action to re-evaluate the Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby advise Florida Governor Jeb Bush ofthe City of Miami Beach's objection to
the procedures, methodologies, and science utilized by the Florida Department of Agriculture and
Consumer Services with regard to its Citrus Canker Eradication Program and urge Florida Governor
Jeb Bush to take immediate action to re-evaluate the Citrus Canker Eradication Program.
