SUBJECT: Ad Hoc Green Committee
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to circulate the proposed mission and charge of
the Ad Hoc Green Committee, which was established by the Commission at the May 16,
2007 Commission Meeting.
I will include this proposal as a discussion item on the July 11th Commission Agenda in order
to receive your input as well as a vote endorsing the mission and charge of the committee.

AD HOC GREEN COMMITTEE
PURPOSE
The Ad Hoc Green Committee was appointed by Mayor David Dermer for a one year period of
time to provide a forum and a mechanism to discuss green (environmental) issues of concern
to the community and appropriate levels of response by the City government.
II. MISSION
The mission of the Ad Hoc Green Committee is to provide a recommendation for the
consideration of the full City Commission and possibly otherAdvisory Boards and Committees
of the City on desired areas of environmental/green focus within the community, and also to
recommend how those areas of focus are integrated into the governments structure of the City
of Miami Beach.
III. PROCESS AND OBJECTIVES
The Ad Hoc Green Committee will focus on the following objectives:
a) Areas of Focus: The Ad Hoc Green Committee will discuss and define an overall
policy position for the City of Miami Beach relative to green/environmental issues
and recommend areas of focus that reasonably can be addressed by the City of
Miami Beach. The discussion and recommendation process will take into
consideration achievable activities both within the framework of impacts expected
to be received and resources necessary to accomplish said activities.
Possible areas of discussion include:
1. Recycling
2. Water Conservation
3. Urban Forestry
4. Air Quality
5. Sustainable/Green Buildings (Existing and New Construction)
6. Vehicles
7. Beach Preservation and Renourishment
b) The Ad Hoc Green Committee will discuss and recommend to the full City
Commission an on-going government model that will address how
green/environmental areas of focus are to be integrated into the City's Advisory
Boards and Committees structure. The Ad Hoc Green Committee will recommend
whether the existing Board and Committees rules and responsibilities are
enhanced to include areas of focus or if restructuring and reorganization of Boards
and Committees is appropriate to accomplish the policy objectives recommended
by the Ad Hoc Green Committee.

IV. EXPECTED OUTCOMES/RECOMMENDATIONS
The City Commission will be provided a report by the Ad Hoc Green Committee within the one
year of allotted time for the Ad Hoc Committee identifying recommendations in the process
and objectives areas identified.
