VVV Summer Nearing An All Time Highl - So Far, The Parks and Recreation Department has 2,157 children enrolled in all of our day camps and specialty camps such as Marine Biology, Surf/Snorkeling, Fishing, Expressions Performing Arts, and Guard StarUJr. Lifeguard. We will update you with summer totals once school begins. Playground Revue- You are cordially invited to attend this year's Playground Revue(s)!! The Revue(s), a camp summer show in its 64t" yearwill be presented at 2 venues; Thursday July 12th at Hall C side entrance in the Convention Center with one show at 4:OOpm and the second show at 7:OOpm. On Friday July 13~' at 7:OOpm, a 3rtl show will be presented at North Shore Park. We Care 4 U Club- The Scott Rakow Youth Center after school "We Care 4 U Club" wrapped over 1,000 new personal hygiene items that were donated from area businesses, hotels and motels. The children delivered the items in baskets and boxes to the Camillus House, downtown. For their community involvement and service project, the kids received a tour of the facility and greeted clients who were waiting to be served a meal. School's Out Fiesta- On Wednesday, May 30th, nearly 1,000 Miami Beach residents enjoyed a fun family evening at the Flamingo Park School's Out Fiesta. Children and their parents celebrated the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation with a huge carnival style event. The evening included free music, rides, crafts and a whole lot of fun! Comic Book Club- The North Shore Park and Youth Center released their first ever comic book on June 11th. The Comic Book Club was created by 13 participants from the after- school program. The kids receive pre-printed layouts of comic book pages to draw their own scenarios. After the pre-sketches, the colors are filled in, scanned into the computer, and printed out as a booklet. Wacky Olympics- On Friday, June 15th, "Wacky Olympics" week concluded for the City of Miami Beach's Flamingo Park's summer campers. The week long special event that integrates singing, parading, decorating and team spirit concluded with a competition in silly recreational relay activities. The tasks and competition consisted of decorating each meeting room, most creative poster, best cheer and best overall costume. Loco Luau- North Shore Park was the place to be Friday evening June 29t" for a night of traditional Hawaiian fun. Over 800 Miami Beach residents enjoyed an evening filled with entertainment, to include rides, children's dance performances, and music from the Hawaiian Islands. Event goers couldn't resist stopping by the "Hawaiian Food Court' as the aroma from the grill filled the air. The "Tiki Bar" was not to be missed, as it featured delicious non-alcoholic tropical fruit drinks like pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris.
