SUBJECT:
RESOLUTION IN EASING VALET PARKING FEES FROM $S. 00 TO
$6.00 PER VEHICLE AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 86-18629
HISTORY: Pursuant to City commission Resolution No 86-18629,
approved October 1, 1986, the City established a valet parking fee
of Five Dollars ($5.00) per vehicle at the Theater of the Performing
Arts. Such fee has remained in effect since that time and has also
been applied when valet parking concessions have been needed at the
Miami Beach Convention Center and Colony Theater.
Pursuant to city commission Resolution No. 89-19675, approved July
26, 1989, the City entered into a concession agreement with Gold
Star, Inc. to provide valet parking services at the Miami Beach
Convention Center, the Theater of the Performing Arts, Colony Theater
and other locations at the direction of the City Manager. Said
Concession Agreement provides that the prices and fees charged for
valet parking services shall not exceed those established by the City
commission and the Concessionaire has complied with this requirement.
The Concessionaire has submitted a request for the City commission
to consider increasing the valet parking fee to six Dollars ($6.00)
per vehicle and has supported its request by including the results
of a survey of others valet parking fees in the Miami area. .
BACKGROUND: The City Administration has confirmed the following valet
parking fees at comparable operations in Miami:
Miami Locations
Gusman Center
Knight Center
(For events)
Fee
$6.00 (Service also supplied by Gold Star)
$9.00
Valet parking service is not available at the Coconut Grove
Exhibition Center.
A wide disparity in time for parking at convention center operations
occurs as compared' to performing arts locations_ Convention
attenders routinely attend functions in excess of five hours, while
those attending performing art funotions normally require parking for
much shorter durations.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The City Administration recommends that the City commission adopt
the attached Resotution rescinding Resolution' No. 86-18629 and
establishing a valet parking fee of six Dollars ($6.00) per vehicle
at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Theater of the Performing Arts,
Colony Theater and 'sUch other locations as may be designated by the
. ci ty Manage.r. ""
