RESOLUTION NO. 2000-24187
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED USES OF LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS FOR NOVEMBER 29, 2000, AT 2:30 P.M.; AND
APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE PROPOSED USES OF THE LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been awarded grant funds from the United States
Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program for 2001; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated funds for this project are $414,*',lofwhich $373,015 will be
funded by the United States Department of Justice, and the remaining $41,446 will be funded by the City;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed uses for grant funds will be to fund four (4) new part-time School
Crossing Guards' salaries and benefits for two years at an estimated cost of $25,000 (these funds
will cover the part-time hourly salaries and are offset by monies the City receives from the State of
Florida), the purchase of sixty-two (62) mobile laptop computers for use by patrol officers at an
estimated cost of $314,252, and the purchase of other needed computer equipment, such as desktop
computers, printers, and scanners at an estimated cost of $75,209; and
WHEREAS, this is the fifth year of funding under the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, and
the proposed use of these funds, has the approval of the Administration and was also endorsed by the Dade-
Miami Criminal Justice Council at its regular meeting on July 21, 2000; and
WHEREAS, one of the requirements of the Grant is that a Public Hearing be held for the purpose
of providing an opportunity for members ofthe public to discuss and/or comment upon the proposed uses
of the funds,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF mE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission,
following a duly noticed public hearing, hereby approve and authorize the above stated proposed uses of the
Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds.

ANALYSIS
The City of Miami Beach was awarded grant funds from the United States Department of Justice
under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program for 2001. The total estimated funds for
this project are $414,461, of which $373,015 will be funded by the United States Department of
Justice and the remaining $41,446 will be funded by the City.
The grant funds will be used to fund four new part-time School Crossing Guards, salaries and
benefits for two years at an estimated cost of $25,000 ( these funds will cover the part-time hourly
salaries and are offset by monies the City receives from the State of Florida), the purchase of 62

It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution and authorize and
approve the proposed uses of the Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds.
