2000-24216 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 2000-24216 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO 10840, AS AMENDED, THAT CREATED THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH FINE ARTS BOARD, BY EXPANDING THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS FROM THIRTEEN (13), TO FOURTEEN (14), WITH THE MAYOR AND EACH CITY COMMISSIONER MAKING TWO (2) APPOINTMENTS, AND THAT NEW MEMBERS BE APPOINTED FOR TERMS TO COMMENCE IN 2001. WHEREAS, at the City Commission meeting of October 8, 1997, a discussion was held concerning the Miami Beach Fine Arts Board's inability to conduct business due to the lack of a quorum of members at its regularly scheduled meetings, and WHEREAS, thereafter, the membership on the Fine Arts Board was reduced from twenty- two (22) to thirteen (13) members; and WHEREAS, it has been recommended by the Fine Arts Board members that the current membership number of thirteen (13) be expanded to fourteen (14) in order to conform with the direct appointment method of making City board appointments; and WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it advisable that the number of members on the Fine Arts Board be increased to fourteen (14) members and that the Mayor and each Commissioner shall appoint two (2) members to the Board; and WHEREAS, new members be appointed for terms to commence in 2001. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission herein amend Section 1 of Resolution No 10840, as amended, creating the Miami Beach Fine Arts Board, as follows: 1, Said Board shall consist of thirtc<.n (13) fourteen (14) members; six (6) of whom shalllx appointed at llll'gc; by the. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Adopt the Resolution, ANALYSIS At the City Commission meeting of October 8, 1997, a discussion was held concerning the Miami Beach Fine Arts Board's inability to conduct business due to the lack of a quorum of members at its regularly scheduled meetings, At that time, the original ordinance was amended reducing membership from twenty-two (22) to the current membership number of thirteen (13), The purpose of this amendment will be to conform to the direct appointment method of making Board appointments adopted by the City Commission in 2000, and to streamline the appointment process. It is now the recommendation of the Fine Arts Board that the City Commission increase the number of members to fourteen (14) members of which the Mayor and each Commissioner shall appoint two (2) members each, Accordingly, the Administration is recommending the adoption of this Resolution, AGENDA ITEM t'A ...
