RE:
EMERGENCY REQUEST FOR RESOLUTION CONCERNING
CONVENTION DEVELOPMENT TAX
The County is about to pledge Convention Development Taxes to fund a baseball stadium for the
Florida Marlins. This action ignores the County's obligation to the City of Miami Beach under the
inter-local agreement.
Please draft a resolution opposing the use of Convention Development Tax for this purpose.
The resolution should authorize the Administration to proceed with legal action if necessary to
protect the City's rights.

Dear Honorable Mayor and Members of the Board:
On December 20, 2000, the City of Miami Beach City Commission adopted
Resolution Number 2000-24196 (enclosed). This resolution opposes the use of
the City of Miami Beach's (the "City") share of the Convention Development Tax
for any purpose other than is set forth in the interlocal agreement between the
City and Miami-Dade County (the "County"), dated June 21, 1996.
The resolution further supports the City and the County reaching a mutual
agreement that will ensure sufficient funding to maintain the Miami Beach
Convention Center supporting facilities and for other eligible uses as mandated in
the Florida State Statute.
Respectfully submitted,
