A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION ("FDOT") TO TAKE ANY AND ALL
ACTIONS, AS REQUIRED, TO EFFECTUATE THE
NAMING OF THE BRIDGE LOCATED AT INDIAN CREEK
DRIVE AND WEST 41ST STREET (THE "41ST STREET
BRIDGE"), IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, AS
APPROVED AND CONSISTENT WITH SENATE BILL 138.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach had
previously taken action on October 19, 1988 (via City Commission Memorandum No.
567-88, to name the bridge over Indian Creek Drive on West 41St Street (the "41St
Street Bridge") in honor and memory of Robert L. Blum, but the sign designating
same was removed when FDOT made major repairs to the bridge; and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Blum, along-time City resident and activist, died on May
22, 1988; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission are desirous of continuing to honor
Mr. Blum's memory and hereby wish to reaffirm and ratify the action of the prior City
Commission, and urge the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to take any
and all actions, as required, to effectuate the naming (or re-naming, as the case may
be) of the 41St Street Bridge as the "Robert L. Blum Bridge"; and
WHEREAS, additionally, Senate Bill 138, which Bill took effect on July 1, 2007,
authorizes and directs FDOT to erect suitable markers designating the 41St Street
Bridge as the "Robert L. Blum Bridge".
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that, in accordance with
Senate Bill 138, which Bill took effect on July 1, 2007, the Mayor and City Commission
hereby support and urge the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to take any
and all actions, as appropriate and required, to erect suitable markers designating the
41St Street Bridge as the "Robert L. Blum Bridge".
PASSED and ADOPTED this 5th day of September 2007.

The Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach had previously taken action on October

However, there was no State of Florida nomination and approval for naming of the bridge.
On July 1, 2007 the State Senate Bill 138 designated the 41St Street Bridge as the "Robert L. Blum
Bridge". To complete the administrative requirements, the Mayor and City Commission in honor of Mr.
Blum's memory wish to reaffirm and ratify the action of the prior City Commission, and urge the Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) to take any and all actions, as required, to effectuate the naming
(or re-naming, as the case may be) of the 41St Street Bridge as the "Robert L. Blum Bridge".
The Administration recommends adopting the Resolution.
