SuB.IECT: Appointment of~Edward Del Favero as Interim Fire Chief ~_, .~
The purpose of this LTC is to advise you that I have appointed Assistant Fire Chief Ed
Del Favero as the Interim Fire Chief effective Saturday, September 29, 2007. As you
know, Fire Chief Floyd Jordan will retire from the City effective Friday, September 28,
2007.
Chief Del Favero has been with the City of Miami Beach Fire Department for over 27
years beginning as a Firefighter in 1980. He has been promoted several times
throughout his career and has served as a Firefighter II, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain,
Division Chief of the Rescue Division and Fire Marshal. In 2003, Chief Del Favero was
promoted to Assistant Fire Chief where he oversaw Fire Administration through 2005.
He has been overseeing Fire Operations since 2005. In addition, Chief De Favero is a
certified Firefighter, paramedic, SWAT medic and a former member of the Urban Search
and Rescue Florida Taskforce.
Some of Chief Del Favero's significant accomplishments during his tenure with the Fire
Department include playing a coordinating role with the Fire Department's accreditation
efforts which the department achieved accreditation agency status in 2004; merging the
Ocean Rescue division into the Fire Department; developing the Fire portion of the City's
Major Events Plan; and being involved with the labor management efforts with both the
International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Communications Workers of
America (CWA).
Chief Del Favero is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Public Administration at
Florida International University and has a Bachelor's degree in Fire and Safety
Engineering Technology and an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Fire
Service. Attached is Chief Del Favero's resume.
Please join me in congratulating Chief Del Favero. I know you will find him to be as
competent and capable to serve the City in this capacity as I do. If you have any
questions or need any additional information, please feel free to let me know.
