SUBJECT: Recent Awards
The purpose of this LTC is to share with the Mayor and Commission several recent awards
the City of Miami Beach has been nominated for and or received. These include the
following:
• International City/County Management Association (ICMA) -The City was a
nominee for ICMA's annual Strategic Leadership & Governance Program Excellence
Award which recognizes innovative local govemment programs or processes that
have significantly affected a local govemment organization's culture or strategic
direction.
• Florida League of Cities -The City was named one of five finalists for the Florida
City of Excellence Award which recognizes overall excellence in a city govemment.
The other finalists include the City of Delray Beach, the City of Eustis, the City of Fort
Walton Beach, and the City of Port Orange In addition, Commissioner Richard
Steinberg is a finalist for the Council/Commission Member of the Year Award. The
awards will be presented at the League's award luncheon on November 9, 2007 in
Orlando, Florida.
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) -The City was named a finalist
in the 2007 Innovative Business Solution Award which is given to organizations
which successfully develop innovative and ethical solutions to new and/or ongoing
organizational challenges. The City was recognized our "Working Together: One
team -One City" program developed by the Office of Labor Relations which was
designed to leverage the collaborative partnership between management and union
employees as a catalyst for organizational effectiveness and the City's ability to
better achieve its mission.
All of these awards recognize the many collaborative efforts made by the City and our
employees to achieve our mission of providing excellent public services and safetyto all who
live, work and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic community.
