Completely describe Project approved by the Grants Panel and in a separate narrative detail all revisions to the Project based upon the City Commission approved award. Please be as specific as possible; name of event, specific dates, venues, times, artists, etc. Use extra page if necessary. Project description as approved by Grants Panel: Miami Light Project requests support for the four performance events in its 2007-08 season that will take place in Miami Beach. Additionally, MLP is seeking support for the educational and community outreach programs that will take place at Miami Beach Senior High School, Books & Books and The Standard Miami in conjunction with its 2007-08 performances. MLP will present dancer and choreographer Ros Warby from Melbourne, Australia, on November 3, 2007, at the Colony Theater (time TBD) as part of its Contemporary Performance Series and MBCAC's "Sleepless Nights." Admission will be free on the night of the festival. Aone-of-a-kind artist who is gaining international recognition for her unique style of contemporary dance, Warby will perform her critically acclaimed solo, Monumental, which premiered at the Melbourne International Arts Festival in October 2006. Monumental features Warby's striking blend of classical technique and structured improvisation against a 'moving set' of magnified photos and film footage. Warby is the recipient of grants and fellowships from the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria and the City of Melbourne. Chinese-American writer and comedian Kristina Wong will make her South Florida debut at the Colony Theater or Byron-Carlyle on January 23 or 24, 2008, at 8 p.m., as part of the SoBE Comedy Festival. Tickets will be $25. Wong will perform Free?, an evening-length solo show conceived in response to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Featuring a live auction with audience participation, Free? takes a satiric look at notions of freedom. Wong has toured the piece to the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), the University of Texas, and the University of Florida. "Best of Here and Now at Spiegeltent" on Collins Park Campus, February 2008, MLP will showcase three outstanding artists from its annual Here & Now program (artists TBD). Tickets will range from $10 -$20. H&N features new short works commissioned from South Florida's most talented, up-and-coming dance, music, theatre and multimedia innovators. Spiegeltent's or "European mirror tents" are ornate, handmade pavilions that were used in the early 20th century as traveling dance halls, bars and entertainment venues. Several of these spectacular portable structures still exist and in recent years have been used as settings for intimate contemporary performances at festivals in Europe, Australia and North America. This program marks Spiegeltent's first-ever appearance on Miami Beach. From September 24 - 28, 2008, MLP will present its 6th Annual Miami/Project Hip Hop (M/PH), a celebration of Hip Hop music, dance, theater, spoken word, visual art and film. Events will take place at the Colony Theater and various outdoor sites on Miami Beach. (Times, locations, artists and educational activities TBD) Main stage ticket prices range from $10 - $20; auxiliary programs and outreach programs for youth are free. Previously funded by Miami Beach VCA Cultural Tourism grants, M/PH is a forum to educate audiences and celebrate the Hip Hop movement by exploring the social and cultural influences that have contributed to its development worldwide. Through live performances, panel discussions, films, workshops and receptions with artists, MLP seeks to raise awareness, dispel myths, affect positive changes in our community, and contribute to the positive development of Hip 6 of 11 Hop culture--locally, nationally and internationally. Hip Hop culture is not rap music; it is a 30-year-old multidisciplinary movement that represents the creative expression of diverse youth and young adults worldwide. MLP is one of six cultural organizations from across the country whose work as presenters of Hip Hop culture has been recognized with prestigious, four-year, $300,000 Ford Foundation Future Aesthetics Initiative grants. In addition to the proposed performances, this project will include educational and outreach programs on Miami Beach. These programs are designed to enhance audiences' appreciation for innovative artistic work; further the artistic growth and careers of artists from our own community; reach new and diverse audiences; and make free cultural experiences and artistic training available to young people and adults from our community's most impoverished neighborhoods. While the educational and outreach component of this project is still being developed, MLP is planning activities with Miami Beach Senior High School, Books & Books and The Standard Hotel Center for Integral Living. Participating artists will include Kristina Wong, Ros Warby, theater artist Rha Goddess, and theater ensemble Teo Castellanos: D-Projects. Performing arts enthusiasts from throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties are the target audience for MLP's 2007-08 performances on Miami Beach. With atwo-year, $100,000 Arts Partners audience development grant, MLP has also identified three distinct target audiences for M/PH--audiences that cross over to our other performance programs. They include local, national and international artists and arts professionals; young, culturally diverse adults age 18 - 30; and underserved youth age 14 -18. The constituents of MLP's community partners, Miami Workers Center and Youth Expressions, will receive free tickets and transportation to performances. MWC serves low-income adults and families living in Liberty City; YE serves at-risk youth, age 14 - 18, from Liberty City, Overtown and Little Haiti. The educational and outreach components of this project will reach all of the target audiences listed above, as well as students at Miami Beach Senior High School. Project description as revised (if applicable) based upon the City Commission approved award: Changes to projects awarded under the Artistic Disciplines program must still adhere to the requirement that the work is new or has never before been presented in Miami Beach. Changes to the above as follows: The Ros Warby performance was determined to be too big to fit in the Colony so she will not be participating in Sleepless Nights. Along with our partner, Fundarte, MLP will participate in Sleepless Nights thru the Speigel Stage to highlight our Global Cuba series at Speigeltent. (See below) Kristina Wong's performance during South Beach Comedy Festival will take place on Wednesday, January 16th at 8PM at the Colony. In lieu of presenting the Best of Here & Now at Speigeltent, we will instead do an expanded presentation, with partner Fundarte, of Global Cuba at Speigeltent which will consist of 6 performances, all on Sunday evening at 5PM January 13 -February 17. Each performance will feature an artist with Cuban roots living in Miami or other cities outside of Cuba. Artists for this series include: Overproof (NY), Dafnis Prieto NY), Gema y Pavel (Spain), Arte Vivo (Miami), Los Herederos (Miami) and Tiempo Libre (Miami). These performances will all have a $25 ticket price and packages will be available for the series that will offer savings to the audience member. 7of11 Exhibit 2-A: Project Budget /Revised Total Project Budget Name of organization: Miami Light Project, Inc.
