LETTER TO COMMISSION
January 1% 2001
TO: Mayor Neisen O. Kasdin and
Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez ~/
City Manager
SUBJECT: RIVERSIDE GORDON BUILDING
This Letter to the Commission is to advise of the outcome of an inquiry by a citizen to
Commissioner Jose Smith, regarding the Riverside GordOn Building located at 1250 Normandy
Drive. Mr. David Miller contacted Commissioner Smith and advised that the building was vacant,
up for sale, and has been painted repeatedly due to graffiti.
Officer De La Espriella spoke personally with Mr. Miller on January 9 and again on January 10,
2001 regarding the problem. In addition, Captain Skinner, the North End District Commander,
personally spoke with Mr. Miller last week.
Officer De La Espriella has begun an investigation that will include analyzing the graffiti to
determine if it can be matched with any known graffiti mists as well as increased patrols and
surveillance of the building at night. However, a part of the problem is that the building is vacant and
up for sale and that makes it a target for this kind of act.
We will keep you advised if any other information pertinent to this building is developed.
