SUBJECT: SINGLE PARENT FAMILY HOUSING AND RESOURCE CENTER-
UPDATE
On September 26,2000, the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Miami
Beach (Housing Authority) voted to formalize the final determination that the Single Parent Family
Housing and Resource Center is not financially feasible and, therefore, will not be implemented on
the 1231-1251 17th Street site. Simultaneously, the Housing Authority reaffirmed its commitment
to the Project at a suitable, alternate site.
During this meeting, the Board of Commissioners also voted to obtain the services of expert real
estate appraisers to provide updated advice on the fair market value of the 1231-1251 17'" Street site.
Once the current value of the land has been appraised, the Housing Authority will consider what
course of action to follow regarding the site.
Subsequently, on October 4,2000, the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority voted to
authorize the development of an alternate, reconfigured and downscaled Single Parent Family
Housing and Resource Center to be developed on land owned by the Housing Authority at 321-327
Michigan Avenue, Miami Beach.
The City and the Housing Authority entered into a HOME Program Agreement in the amount of
$760,000 for the original Single Parent Family Housing and Resource Center that was to be
developed at 1231-1251 17'" Street. The HOME funds committed by the City under this agreement
have not been utilized. Therefore, the Housing Authority is requesting that the Agreement be
amended to provide the previously committed HOME Program funds in the amount of$760,000 for
the alternate Center, to be developed at 321-327 Michigan Avenue.
Once the Housing Authority has submitted to the City Administration all pertinent details on the new
Center, the project will be forwarded to the City's Loan Review Committee for review and
recommendation. Afterwards, the project will be submitted to the City Commission for
consideration and final approval.
