Completely describe Project approved by the Grants Panel and in a separate 1llI1TlIIive detail the revisions to the Project based
upon the awatd. Please be as specific as possible; name of event, venue, times, etc. Also, detail the organization's
participation in Miami Beach Second Thursdays. Miami Beach AncholS should list specifics about their mentoring program.
Proposed Project: "TeIling Stories T1rrough V'Wlals"two-part original, innovative workshop and public mural
ellbibition program. At. art worllshops, paJticipauts visualize how an issue affiJCts them, write about persooa1 experiEnces
and fileIings relating to issue, and then create artwork to iI1ustrate their stories. CFCA artists place, in montage-furm, the
printed stories and colorlW canvases created by workshop participants, on wood panels to funn a movable mural. The
mural is displayed in public places to Ellligbten mass audiences about the issues, and to elevate their lIWaI$leSS of the role
the arts play in society's well-being.
CFCA requested $15.000 from Miami Besch Cultural Arts Council to expand its hi&hly successful workshop and
mural exhibition program in Miami Besch. For 2000-2001, CFCA proposed to filcilitate workshops with
approximately 100 individuals from underserved conununities in Miami Bead1, and present a year-round series of
mural exhibitions in Miami Beach venues. The issue addressed (project theme) was to be detemlined by CFCA in
collaboration with school principals and organization directors, based on "need" of population being served. CFCA
proposed that throughout the year, on a rotational basis, the project murals would be exhibited in the Miami Beach
Botanical Gardens, SunTrust Bank Building on Lincoln Road, Miami Bead1 schools, appropriate youth rallies, as
well as other public Miami Beach venues including libraries, civic, community, senior and youth centers. All project
murals would be made available to any and all organizations that wish to ellbibit them at their conferences and events
(Miami Besch Ccovent.ioo Center, TOPA, elc.). Additionally, when not on public exhibition, CFCA murals would be
made available for viewing at CFCA headquarters or at the headquarters of Perfonning Artists for Community
Education (PACE) in North Miami Besch. In addition to Miami Besch locales, CFCA murals have been and would
be exhibited at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center; James L. Knight Center; Turner Technicsl Arts High
School Library; the Main Library in Fort Lauderdale; Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood, FL, and other venues
to be scheduled.
CFCA received $4,000 from Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council (approximately 1/3 of the amoundrequesled.) CFCA will,
therefore, reduce the scope of their proposal, and facilitate one workshop at Miami Beach High School with approximately 30
students. CFCA will exhibit project Murals at the above listed venues.
