Gonzalez City Manager ~ SUB,IECT: Congressional Recognition for Neighborhoods First Support Team Program The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice has notified the City of its intention to feature the Neighborhoods First Support Team, a program of the Office of Children's Affairs, in its annual report to the Congress of the United States. The program's inclusion in the State's annual report highlights our City's success in addressing the risk factors that lead to juvenile delinquency in the program's North Beach target area. The Neighborhoods First Support Team is funded by a $54,099 Title V grant from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. Funding for this program ends October 2001. Among the accomplishments of the Neighborhoods First Support Team in 2000: ~ Management of the Truancy Intervention Program targeting more than 60 youth/families with tmancy prevention strategies; ~ Provision of emergency rent and utility assistance for more than 20 eligible residents/families utilizing Emergency Shelter Grant funds. ~ Supervision of more than 30 youth adjudicated by the courts for status and criminal offenses and required to complete community service hours; { Sponsorship of monthly community workshops addressing areas identified in the Three- year Comprehensive Juvenile Delinquency Plan; and I' Completion of community service and beautification projects benefiting the North Beach commtmity and eider residents cited with code violations. This year, as part of the Neighborhoods First Support Team, the Office of Children's Affairs secured free training, curriculum and technical support to include the All Stars Program (a nationaily-recognized prevention initiative) at three City sites: North Shore Park, Scott Rakow Youth Center and Boys & Girls Club at Flamingo Park.
