No.8 1-~t:JD I LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Neisen O. Kasdin and Members of the City Commission DATE: February 12, 2001 FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez \~ City Manager U . U BOAT SHOW TRAILER STORAGE AT MUNICIPAL PARKING LOT 20X (27TH STREET AND COLLINS AVENUE) SUBJECT: In response to a citizen inquiry (see attached) regarding the storage of trailers and lack of available public parking during the NMMA International Boat Show at Municipal Parking Lot 20X, located at 27th Street and Collins Avenue and its vicinity, the Parking Department will reserve spaces in the lot for permit holders. Moreover, the parking meters on the south side of 27th Street between Collins Avenue and Indian Creek have been bagged in order to accommodate any displaced permit holder and municipal parking decals will be honored at all on-street parking meters in the surrounding areas. As a reminder, this facility is used during move-in and move-out for storage of "empty" trailers only. The trailers are detached from the "cabs". Therefore, there is no activity during the evening. In addition, Municipal Parking Lot 20X is scheduled for refurbishment immediately following this year's Boat Show. This includes drainage, repaving, restriping, signage, and landscaping. Miami Beach, Fl. 33140 January 26, 2001 City of Miami Beach Office ofthc Mayor & Commission 1700 Convention Center Drive Miami Beach, F\. 33139 Gentlemen: Weare writing this letter because we think it is unfair for the residents of the area of Collins A venue, Indian Creek and the 27th Street, that the trailer trucks for the Boat Show be parked in the parking lot of Collins and 27th St. Those trailer trucks should be parked in another place and not in the parking lot for the following reasons: 1. It is not fair that the residents that pay to park their cars in that lot be obliged to park in the street, and also occupy the spaces of other residents that pay to park in the adjacent streets and Indian Creek. The cost of the parking permits is high. 2. The noise we have during the night and early in the morning when they move all those trucks is terrible. We don't know what they do, but during the days they are parked there, all the time they are moving the trucks from one place to another, and most of the time at night. 3. Due to the weight of the trucks and all this movement, the parking lot is a total disaster, the pavement is full of holes and cracks, and when it rains all the water remains there. In both entrances, Collins and 27'h Street, the sidewalks are cracked, being a danger for the pedestrians. The parking lot is always dirty because when you have a place in such a terrible condition, people do not care about it. Garbage attracts garbage. 4. We know that the Boat Show is a tourist attraction and it generates money and publicity for Miami Beach, but we, as residents and tax payers, deserve a better treatment, and that parking lot is a shame for the City. We would appreciate if you consider this request.
