NO. LTC # 128-200$ LETTER T~ CoM1v, .1S~.I_Qc~l
TO: Mayor Matti Bower and Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager,;~~
DATE: April 30, 2008
SUBJECT: North Beach Focus Group Meetings -May 20-22
The purpose of this LTC is to update you on the continued efforts to gain insight from our
residents as to the services we are providing throughout the community.
In 2007, the City of Miami Beach conducted the second set of community surveys to gather
opinions and attitudes regarding services provided throughout the community. The results of
this community satisfaction survey have been widely reported citywide, and we continue
working to address the issues identified as key concerns. Resident results overall remained
favorable across a number of survey items, and some services have improved further.
Business results improved even more dramatically across many survey items, with over 40%
of comparable questions increasing by at least 5 points from 2005. However, the survey
identified a widening gap between North Beach residents and other regions (across a wide
variety of issues) -North Beach was often least favorable and lower than the 2005 survey
scores. A number of factors were identified as potentially contributing to the more negative
perceptions in North Beach, including the construction of the 63rd Street Bridge and resulting
traffic impacts that coincided with the timing of the survey. As a result, Commission gave
direction at the 2007 retreat to conduct follow-up focus groups in the North Beach area in
2008.
The Hay Group will conduct these North Beach focus group meetings on May 20, May 21,
and May 22, 2008 at North Shore Park, 507 72"d Street between 6:30 and 8:30 PM. These
meetings will provide an opportunity for the Hay Group to delve deeper into some key topic
areas identified for improvement with those City residents who provided negative opinions
from the North Beach area.
All residents participating in the focus groups will receive a gift as well as have an opportunity
to participate in a raffle. Snacks and refreshments will also be served for all those who
attend.
Over the next two weeks, the Hay Group will be contacting residents who participated in the
survey to extend an invitation to participate in these focus group meetings.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me.
