A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROPRIATING $125,344 FROM
BOND FUND 426 FOR AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE PROFESSIONAL
SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH THOMPSON AND WOOD, INC. FOR THE
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LINCOLN ROAD DISTRICT; SAID
AMENDMENT PROVIDING FOR ADDITIONAL DESIGN SERVICES FOR
W A TERMAIN EXTENSIONS AND SANITARY SEWER MODIFICATIONS
ON COLLINS AVENUE, 17TH STREET, AND WASHINGTON AVENUE.
WHEREAS, on July 27, 1994, the Mayor and City Commission approved an Agreement for
Architectural and Engineering Services with the firm of Thompson and Wood, Inc. (Consultant) for
Capital Improvements to the Lincoln Road District, which included the replacement of water and
sewer mains from Collins A venue to West A venue; and
WHEREAS, the Administration has been made aware by the Consultant that the water and
sewer mains on Collins Avenue, 17th Street, and Washington Avenue are also in need of
replacement and extension; and
WHEREAS, funding for this additional work, in the amount of$125,344, is available from
Bond Fund 426.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the appropriation of
$125,344 from Bond Fund 426 for Amendment No.1 to the Professional Services Agreement with
Thompson and Wood, Inc. for the Capital Improvements to the Lincoln Road District; said
amendment providing for additional design services for watermain extensions and sanitary sewer
modifications on Collins Avenue, 17th Street, and Washington Avenue, is herein approved.

The Administration recommends approval of the Resolution.
BACKGROUND
On July 27, 1994 the City Commission approved the Design Contract with Thompson and Wood,
Inc. (Consultant) for the Capital Improvements to the Lincoln Road District. Included in the design
work was the replacement of water and sewer mains on Lincoln Road from Collins Avenue to West
A venue including the adjacent cross streets. Since that time, the City Administration has been made
aware by the Consultant that the water and sewer mains on Collins A venue, 17th Street, and
Washington Avenue are also in need of replacement and extension. Thompson and Wood, Inc.
proposes to provide surveying and to prepare the necessary construction documents to do the work
for the sum of$125,344 as follows:
Water Main Extensions - (Estimated Construction Cost $600,000)
· Collins Avenue - 15th Street to 17th Street
· Washington Avenue - 17th Street to existing line at 18th Street
· Washington Avenue - 21st Street to Dade Boulevard
Gravity Sanitary Sewers - (Estimated Construction Cost $587,400)
· Collins Avenue - 14th Lane to 18th Street
· 17th Street - Collins Avenue to Pump Station # 11 at Washington Avenue
Force Main Extension - (Estimated Construction Cost $268,600)
· 17th Street - Meridian Avenue to Michigan Avenue

CONCLUSION
Approval of the additional design services with Thompson and Wood, Inc. will allow the City to fast
track the additional work and take advantage of the existing construction contract unit prices which
will provide the needed infrastructure work for the Convention Center Hotel and other new building
projects in the adjacent area. Funds are available in the Water and Sewer Revenue Bond Fund 426.
