COMMISSION MEMORANDUM NO. '1J 2. ~3
DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 1983
FROM:
TO:
SUBJECT:
ESTABL! SHMENT OF A "WALK OF THE STARS"
The Miami Beach Fine Arts Board would like to request authorization to establish a
"Walk of the Stars" on the southeast lawn of the Theater of the Performing Arts prop-
erty (area where Lichtenstein statue is located).
The Fine Arts Board views this as an opportunity to establish a landmark for the "stars"
who perform at cultural events or visit our city. It is the Board's Intention that
"stars" would leave their "mark" in a two (2) foot round cement disc.
The Fine Arts Board has also indicated that all direct costs incurred in this program
will be borne via the Fine Arts Board Special Revenue Account. The minimal preparation
work required to set up the site for a cement pour will be performed by the Building
Maintenance Division (i.e., forms, preparation of two (2) foot piece of ground).
The selection of honorees and selection criteria for inductees to the "Walk of the Stars"
would be under the aegis of the Fine Arts Board and would become an ongoing function of
that Board.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
It is the Administration's recol1lTlendation that the above request to establish a "Walk of
the Stars" be approved. The granting of this request wi" provide the City of Miami
Beach with a landmark at minimal cost, and in no way wi" interfere with any proposed
renovations/expansions planned for the Convention Center or Theater of the Performing
Arts (TOP A).
