A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA;
IN SUPPORT OF SEVERING THE TIES OF MIAMI-
DADE, BROWARD, PALM BEACH, LEE, COLLIER AIJD
MONROE COUNTIES FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND
ESTABLISHING THEIR OWN 5135 STATE OF THE
FEDERAL UNION OF THE UNITED STATES; PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
AND PROVIDING FOR RN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the State of Florida became a United States
territory in 1819 and entered the Federal Union of the United
States of America as a state in 1845, and;
WHEREAS, Florida has grown from a thinly populated rural
state to the fourth most populous state of the United States.
Population estimated to be nearly Z9 million, and;
WHEREAS, the State of. Florida has grow from two initial
counties to that of sixty-seven counties of which the moat
populous and urban are the three counties of Miami- Dade,
Broward, and Palm Beach and;
WHEREAS, the counties of Miami Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach
being the most populated, and have out of necessity, requirements
for conducting their affairs, that are different and often times
more intense than other portions of the State and;
WHEREAS, local governments representing the citizens within
the counties of Miami Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach earnestly
feel that the government of the State of Florida has, as in the
past, but more so today, ignored the requirements of the citizens
which comprise the three moat populous counties of southeast
Florida both for funding from the of the State government of
Florida and for laws and regulations which are needed to secure
the quality of life, benefits of liberty and the pursuit of
happiness, and;
WHEREAS, Southeast Florida contributes more tax revenue to
the State of Florida that it receives from the present State
government, and;
WHEREAS, the above described local governments have been
refused access to many state elected officials to even discuss
the problems of southeast Florida, and;
WHEREAS, the Declaration of Independence of the United
States of America provides that;

" whenever any ..,government becomes destructive of life, liberty,
and the pursuit of happineso it is the right of the people to
alter or abolish and to institute new government...", arid;

WHEREAS, local governments within the southeast State of
Florida clearly believe the conduct of the government of the
state of Florida, particularly the legislature of same, hag been
destructive of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for
said area and;
WHEREAS, local governments within Miami-Dade, Broward, and
Palm Beach, believe that it is in the best interest of its
citizens to sever the ties that said citizens have with the State
of Florida and formulate and establish their own state of the
Federal Union of the United States.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the
City of Margate Florida,
Section 1: That the above preamble be hereby endorsed
and adopted herein.
Section 2: The City Commission of the City of Margate
Florida goes on record supporting an Act of Congress reorganizing
a 51"` state of the Federal Vnion comprised of the counties of
Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Lee, Collier and Monroe Counties
within the area of the State of Florida.
Section 3: That a certified copy of this Resolution
shall be sent to the elected head of government of the counties
and municipalities within Miami-Dade, Broward, and palm Beach
counties.
Section 4: That a certified copy of this Resolution
shall be sent to the Congre$sional Delegation of the state of
Florida, to the President of the United States, the Speaker of
the House of Representatives of the United States, and President
pro tem of the Senate of the United States.
SECTION 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions on in
conflict herewith be, and the same are hereby repealed to the
extent of such conflict.
SECTION 6: If any clause, section, other part of
application of the Resolution is held by any court of competent
jurisdir_tion to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 7: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its passage.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 7th DAY OF MAY, 2008.
