2008-26832 ResoRESOLUTION NO. 2008-26832 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RATIFYING A CONTRACT CHANGE ORDER TO AMERICAN HOME BUILDERS OF SOUTH FLORIDA, INC., TO PROVIDE FOR REPLACEMENT OF VINYL COMPOSITION FLOOR TILE AT FIRE STATION NO. 1 AND FIRE STATION NO. 3, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $12,400; WITH FUNDING FROM THE PREVIOUSLY APPROPRIATED FISCAL YEAR 2006/07 CAPITAL RENEWAL AND REPLACEMENT BUDGET. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission, at its December 6, 2006 meeting, adopted Resolution No. 2006-26400, which authorized the Property Management Director to serve as the certified general contractor for the Fiscal Year (FY) 06/07 Capital Renewal and Replacement Projects; and WHEREAS, because of the age and deterioration of the carpeting and the vinyl composition flooring at Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 3, there was a need to include these replacement projects in the development and funding of the Fiscal Year (FY) 06/07 Capital Renewal and Replacement Projects; and WHEREAS, the Property Management Director exercised the authority given to him by the City Manager and City Commission, and developed specifications to address the scope of work that was necessary to obtain price quotes from commercial flooring contractors for the project; and WHEREAS, after the specifications were complete, a Request for Quotations No. VA-QT8FS-07 was developed, and three (3) commercial flooring contractors were contacted to provide quotes for the project, which resulted in three (3) responsive quotes; and WHEREAS, after reviewing the quotes and insurance requirements, the Property Management Director determined that American Home Builders of South Florida, Inc., provided the lowest responsive responsible quote; and WHEREAS, a contract was issued to American Home Builders of South Florida, Inc., in the amount of $30,500, to provide for the replacement of the carpeting and vinyl composition flooring at Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 3; and WHEREAS, on May16, 2007, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution 2007-26540, ratifying the Property Management Director's contract award to American Home Builders of South Florida, Inc., to provide for the replacement of the carpeting and vinyl composition flooring at Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 3 in the amount of $30,500; and WHEREAS, during the course of the replacement of the project, it was determined that additional the replacement was required; and WHEREAS, as it was determined that it was in the best interest of the City to continue to work with American Home Builders of South Florida, Inc. to complete the additional the replacement, cost proposals for the additional work were requested from the company; and WHEREAS, as required by Resolution No.2006-26400, the Administration hereby requests that the Mayor and City Commission ratify the aforestated contract change order, as is deemed necessary to complete the work at Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 3. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby ratify a contract change order to American Home Builders of South Florida, Inc., to provide for the replacement of vinyl composition flooring at Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 3, in the amount of $12,400; with funding from the previously appropriated Fiscal Year 2006/07 Capital Renewal and Replacement Budget.
