SUBJECT: GRAND OPENING OF THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT
CANINE TRAINING FACILITY
This letter to the Commission will serve to inform the Mayor and City Commission of the City
of Miami Beach of the grand opening of the Miami Beach Police Department's (MBPD)
Canine Training Facility located at Stillwater Park, 8440 Hawthorne Avenue. On
Wednesday, September 24, at 6:30 p.m. the MBPD will host the grand opening of the
Facility with handlers from the Canine Unit providing a demonstration utilizing the new
equipment and renovated park grounds.
In addition, there will be presentations honoring the City residents who have been kind
enough to donate the funds to purchase police dogs and equipment. Since March of 2008,
representatives of the MBPD and the Parks and Recreation Department have been working
together to prepare this site for this grand opening. It is anticipated that representatives of
the local homeowner associations will be attending as well. This event will be open to the
public and should end by 8pm.
We would like to extend an invitation to you Mayor and all the Members of the City
Com fission, as well as, City employees to attend and take part in this endeavor.
