Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) Executive Committee Regarding
Trash on the Beach
The purpose of this LTC is to transmit a copy of the resolution passed on Wednesday,
September 10, 2008 by the Executive Committee of the Greater Miami and the Beaches
Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) urging Miami-Dade County to immediately
address the cleanliness of the beach, and to provide the necessary resources in the 2008/09
budget.

WHEREAS, The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau is an
advocate for improved. conditions for the tourism industry in Miami-Dade
County; and
WHEREAS, on August 25, 2008 and September 8, videos were placed on
the You Tube website recording the actual conditions that existed on Miami
Beach on those days; and
WHEREAS, the maintenance and cleanliness of the beach is the
responsibility of Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, the condition of the beach as a result of uncollected trash in the
video is unacceptable and embarrassing; and
WHEREAS, the maintenance is this cnttcal asset has deteriorated over tune
and sunilar conditions have been observed on numerous other occasions;
and
WHEREAS, lasting damage to the County's image, the destination's brand
and the area's economy may be the result of this issue and must be
immediately reconciled with a permanent and sustainable solution.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Executive Committee of the Greater Miami
Convention & Visitors Bureau strongly urges Miami-Dade County to
immediately address the unacceptable and embarrassing situation regarding
the cleanliness of the beach, and to provide all necessary resources in the
2008/09 budget to ensure that this condition is not repeated; the Committee
further directs the President and CEO of the Greater Miami Convention &
Visitors Bureau to transmit this Resolution to the Mayor and the Board of
County Commissioners of Miami-Dade County.
